I’Velo gives a fresh start to the cycling season

Bucharest residents are invited to pedal with IVelo bicycles in Herăstrău and Tineretului parks. The two centers reopened in February. Starting in February, Bucharest residents are invited to pedal with IVelo bicycles through the parks and streets of Bucharest. The rental centers in King Mihai I Park (Charles de Gaulle entrance) and Tineretului Park (Șincai entrance) have been open since February 1st and equipped with modern bicycles in perfect working condition.

In addition to the 26 automated stations in Bucharest, the two rental centers in Herăstrău and Tineretului parks are also opening. The IVelo bikesharing system developed by the Green Revolution Association with the support of Raiffeisen Bank Romania represents an excellent opportunity for Bucharest residents to adopt cycling as a daily means of transportation or recreation. It not only encourages physical activity and environmentally friendly mobility but also contributes to improving the quality of life in cities, reducing traffic, and carbon emissions.

Cycling contributes not only to improving people’s health and well-being but also to achieving 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations, criteria that IVelo already meets. By using bicycles as a means of transportation, we contribute together to:

  • Climate action: By reducing carbon emissions generated by individual car transport, cycling contributes to combating climate change.
  • Health and well-being: Regular use of bicycles improves the physical and mental health of employees, reducing the risk of diseases associated with sedentary lifestyles.
  • Urban mobility: Bicycles facilitate movement in cities, contributing to reducing traffic and increasing the efficiency of public transport.
  • Responsible consumption and production: By promoting bicycle use, dependence on fossil fuels is reduced, and a sustainable alternative to transportation is supported.
  • Sustainable cities and communities: Promoting bicycle infrastructure and active mobility contributes to the development of environmentally friendly cities and the creation of healthier communities.

“Our goal is for people to use bicycles regardless of the season or weather conditions. There is no inappropriate weather for cycling, as long as we are properly equipped. That’s why we opened the centers earlier this year, to give people an extra reason to start pedaling through the city,” said Raluca Fisșer, Green Revolution Association.

“IVelo is Romania’s first bikesharing program, and we are proud to have been alongside our partner, Green Revolution, from the beginning in developing this urban ecology initiative. Together, we continue to work for communities that are more environmentally friendly and healthier,” said Laura Mihăilă, Director of Marketing, Communication & CX, Raiffeisen Bank Romania.
